Today’s Events Surrounding a Possible Ebola Patient in Lubbock

Would like to remind citizens of Lubbock County of the following:

University Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Director Dr. Christopher Piel, UMC’s Director of Intensive Care Dr. Kenneth Nugent, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s Infectious Disease Division Chief Dr. Richard Winn, and Dr. Ron Cook, the City of Lubbock’s Health Authority, have determined that the man taken to UMC this morning does not have the Ebola virus.

The man was released from UMC this afternoon. City of Lubbock health personnel will monitor his condition as a precautionary measure.

I would also encourage citizens to not panic during emergency situations.

Citizens need to educate themselves to any type of disease outbreak and be prepared.

I also encourage citizens to be prepared for any type of disaster that could happen in Lubbock County.

Individuals, Family, Businesses, Community Groups, Churches and the Community At Large should work together the Plan For, Respond To and Recover from any Emergency or Disaster Situation, making our Community truly prepared and Resilient.

Be assured that during today’s events, a coordinated effort between University Medical Center, City of Lubbock and Lubbock County was maintained, per our Joint City of Lubbock / Lubbock County Emergency Operations Plan.

I commend the Combined Efforts of the Staff at University Medical Center, Lubbock EMS, Lubbock Fire Department, Lubbock Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management during today’s events.
