Thursday evening the Mercy Ministries Slaton Area Endowment hosted a fundraising dinner and grant awards celebration (discussed in another article), at the First Baptist Church Activity Center, to celebrate the halfway mark of their 12 month fundraising $100,000 project for the community of Slaton. The organization, an affiliate of Lubbock Area Foundation, reached the halfway mark of raising $50,000 in endowment capital from several generous donors. With that amount and a $25,000 match, from the Lubbock Area Foundation/CH Foundation, brings the total for available endowment to $75,000. The organization, along with the community of Slaton, will begin working on the second half of the original $100,000 goal immediately. $50,000 is planned to be raised between now to mid-December. That goal is to have a minimum of $100,000 collected from the community and a $50,000 match coming from the support of the Lubbock Area Foundation/CH Foundation bringing the grand total with matching funds of $150,000 by mid December.
The organization’s goal is to create a financial legacy for the community of Slaton. The local organization also awarded four $1,000 grants to Mercy Manna, Meals on Wheels, the Weekend Sack Program, and the Harvey House.
