(Slaton) Funeral services for Donald L. Jones 83, of Slaton, were 2 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Slaton with Rev. David Gerhardt officiating. Interment followed in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family had a visitation Friday, November 25, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Englunds. Donald passed from this life Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was born September 8, 1933 in Lubbock County, Texas to Braxton Barto and Nellie Mae (Hefner) Jones. He graduated from Cooper High School and began farming in 1951. Donald married Lavenia Blevins on February 25th, 1956 in Melrose NM. He served in the US Army from 1961 thru 1963. Donald returned to farming and retired in 1986. His second career was as Cotton Broker with Gary Chestnut Cotton Co. retiring in 2002. He was preceded in death by his daughter La Donna Jones Braun and son Cary Jones. Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slaton and served on many church boards.His survivors include his wife, Lavenia of the home, two sons Jeff and Bryan both of Slaton, a brother Douglas of Weatherford TX., and a sister Oneda Sedgzwick of Lubbock, Nancy May of Graham, Jo Sogard of Wichita Falls, along with 3 grand-children. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 305 West Lubbock St,. Slaton, TX 79364.
