Slaton Baseball Report by Hunter Henzler
In a predominantly offensive ballgame versus the Roosevelt Eagles Tuesday, March 31st, the Slaton Tigers walked off the field with their first district win of the to start a 3 game home-stand.
Josh Salazar led the Tigers with a 6 strikeout pitching performance, and scored 3 runs scored off of 3 hits, including a 1 run shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
After getting down 4-3, the Tigers battled back in the 5th inning. After walking Jake Speed and Fernando Portillo, and giving up an outfield single to Josh Salazar to load the bases, Roosevelt’s pitcher walked Adrian Moreno, bringing in Jake Speed and tying the ballgame at 4. With Nate Sanchez at bat, the game experienced a brief pause to gameplay when the fields sprinklers came on. Undeterred by the water, the Tigers bats did not cool off and they rode the inning to the tune of scoring 6 runs to raise their lead to 9-4.
After the Tigers scored once more in the 6th, the top of the 7th proved to keep things exciting as the Tigers allowed 4 runs to bring the game to 10-8 before getting the final out and end the game. Nate Sanchez pitchedthe final 3 innings and was credited with the save.
The Tigers continue district play at home against Denver City on Friday at Noon, JV game will follow after.
