Food for Thought – It’s not where we stand, but in which direction we are going.

Just for Laughs – A Texan was on a flight and began bragging about the property he owned. “How much property do you own?” asked the man sitting next to him. “Forty acres,” answer the Texan. “That doesn’t sound like all the much,” replied the man. “Where is this property located?”  Oh,” said the Texan, Downtown Dallas.”

Generosity Over Judgment (Matt 7:1-6)

CurtisBakerBy Curtis Baker

This week we come into the third and final chapter of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.  Jesus has just finished a section of teaching at the end of Matthew six where he warned us not to try to find our security in worldly wealth, but instead to find our treasure and security in God and his kingdom.  Fresh off the heels of that discussion, in Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus now turns to the subject of generosity.  Given the context, one might expect that Jesus is still thinking about money.  After all, when we say that someone is a “generous” person, that is usually what we mean.  But as we read further into the chapter, we discover it is not money that is on Jesus’ mind, but instead a generosity of judgment.

Food for thought – Youth would be an ideal state if it came a little later in life.

Our monthly 42 game had 2 tables. I heard a lot of laughter coming from the domino room.  That tells me everyone was having fun.  Those who played were Jolene Fondy, Janis King, Fred Melcher, Nancy Harlan, Imogene Davis, Jimmie Pettigrew, Bob Adams, Gene Droemer, and Eunice Montgomery.  Let’s shoot for 3-4 tables next month on August 20 at 1:00.
