Each year, the Mercy Ministries Slaton Area Endowment will award grants for a wide range of community needs through its discretionary grants program. Donors who set no restrictions on the use of their gifts, allow the Mercy Ministries Slaton Area Endowment Advisory Board to assess community needs and respond by awarding grants to the nonprofit organizations that undertake our community’s most critical work. Discretionary funds enable us to support long-term solutions, respond quickly to emergencies, and meet changing needs in our community.
The Mercy Ministries Slaton Area of Endowment, an affiliate Lubbock Area Foundation, provides a way for each and every citizen to lend a hand that’s always ready to help when needed – now and for generations to come.

Kerr Memorial – Almost Funded!
Donations should be mailed to Kerr Memorial, c/o Harvey L. Morton, Attorney, Attn: Dana Boyd, PO Box 10305, Lubbock, Texas 79408.
I need 15 people to send in $100 each. OR 30 people to send in $50 each. That’s how close we are to getting this done. Please, please, please send in a donation. $10, $20, or whatever … it adds up.
I just want to take a minute to again say thank you to all of you who have made a donation and to those of you who have encouraged your classmates to make a donation. I know that there are some that would like to make a donation but, for whatever reason, are unable to do so. I just want to say that I understand. And that it is okay.
I’m so thankful for the little town that I grew up in and the wonderful people from that little town. This project has allowed me to reconnect with old friends, and make some new ones. I’m grateful for that.
So, take a minute and think of a favorite memory about Slaton, about the Kerrs, about your friends and family. We all have so much to be thankful for, and I feel truly blessed to have grown up in a quiet little town with some of the best people in the world.
This is a rough draft of what we are wanting to do for the cemetery marker. The other side will have the etched image of Coach Kerr’s car and the victory bell with High School in the background (if I can find a good picture of the school the way it used to look).
