The School Safety Advocacy Council (SSAC) has recognized Toby Miller, Superintendent of Southland ISD, with a prestigious National 2013 Individual School Safety Award. According to the SSAC, this award is presented to individuals who have “gone above and beyond” in the field of school safety. Out of 145 nominations from across the Nation, the Council recognized eight agencies and seven individuals, of which Miller was one, in the area of school safety.
Miller stated, “I am extremely honored by this award. However, everything we have done has been a team effort. Each safety initiative has been fully supported by our school board and implemented by our staff without hesitation, knowing it is in the best interest of our kids. This award belongs to all of us at Southland ISD”.
The National School Safety Conference was held July 22-26 in Las Vegas. The School Safety Advocacy Council, a collaborative partnership between education, law enforcement and emergency first responders, primarily focuses on conducting school safety assessments, school safety drills and exercises, as well as the delivery of training to school personnel and law enforcement. Representatives at the conference were from 46 states, Canada and the Netherlands.
