A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
On the morning of August 28, 2016, Diana passed away at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK as a result of Leukemia. She put up a good fight for approx. 9 months. She left earth and entered Heaven meeting our Heavenly father as she was comforted by her family members.
Diana was born on September 24, 1946 in Slaton, TX. She was the 5th daughter of Helmuth George Schuette and Annie Emily Schuette. She would have been 70 years old this coming September.
Diana was born and raised in Slaton TX. She graduated High School from Slaton High where she was a cheerleader. She was a bookkeeper for auto mobile dealerships and after moving to Oklahoma in 1981 she was a bookkeeper at MER Resources Oil and Gas. Her hobbies included baking and cooking and in the last few years really enjoyed making beautiful jewelry. She loved going to movies, shopping and traveling the world.
Diana was preceded in death by her husband Ronald R. Sumner, a sister Jody Traveland and her parents Annie and H.G. Schuette.
Diana and her late husband Ronald Sumner were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, OK. Diana served as leader of RCIA –RCIC, a leadership to teach the bible with both children and adults. She was a Eucharistic Minister and various other needs of the church.
Diana married Ronald Sumner in August of 1973. They resided in the Midland, TX before moving to Edmond Ok. Together they have 4 children Shannon Reeves, Shannon Sumner, Shawn Ferguson and Shea Sumner. They later took guardianship of Tara Cox. They have 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Diana is survived by 3 sisters, Amy Dubose, Mary Lee Schuette and Doretta Kitten and 1 brother Terry Schuette who all reside in the Lubbock, TX area.
The family wishes to have any donations or memorials sent to the Parrish of St John the Baptist Church or a Leukemia Cancer Research Foundation.
