The Ministerial Alliance of Slaton met for their first meeting for the 2013-2014 school year and discussed plans for several areas of joint ministry in our community. The Alliance was blessed to have as their special guest, Rachael Wilkerson, and her team from the Lubbock Hunger Initiative who presented ways that their organization would like to partner with the churches in Slaton to provide simple access to applications for Food Stamp and Medicaid services through a new online application process. Plans were also discussed in reopening the Kids’ Café at Cathleen Thomas Elementary to help address the hunger problem among children in Slaton. Lynette Swanner updated us on the latest growth of the Snack Pack program, and prayers were offered up for special needs in our community. Our next Fifth Sunday Singing was also set for September 29th at First Baptist Church. We hope everyone makes plans to attend.
