Phillip El Valle Garcia-Maldonado, Sr. SLATON-Rosary Service for Phillip El Valle Garcia-Maldonado, Sr. 73, of Slaton, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Deacon Phillip Maldonado, Jr. officiating. Mass Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Chacko Thadathil officiating. Graveside service will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. El Valle was born Dec. 26, 1943, in Slaton, Texas. He grew up in the valle, (valley) Phillip married Catrina Alvarado on Jan. 15, 1960, in Slaton. El Valle worked for the City of Slaton from Nov. of 1980 retiring in Aug. of 1991. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and the Church Choir, playing guitar and vocals, his passion for music was evident in his loyalty to perform for rosary and mass services for thirty four years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Francisco Maldonado; son, Joe Maldonado; grandson, Travis Torres; his brothers, Rosendo, Isidro, Florencio, and Juan; and sisters, Juanita and Jovita. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Catrina; his children, Phillip Maldonado, Jr. of Slaton, Andrew (Patricia) Maldonado of Nixon, Mary Jane Maldonado, Lisa (Oscar) Torres, Lena Maldonado, Jim (Rosa) Maldonado, Ben (Cynthia) Maldonado, Sanjuana Maldonado (Fabian), all of Slaton; siblings, Aniceto, Augustine, Estevan, Clementina Castillo, Gloria Rivera, Oralia Cervantez Nieves Castaneda; along with 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Muleshoe Track – Results!!

Thursday, March 2, the Tigerettes traveled to Muleshoe to compete in their first track meet of the year. For the 7th Grade Tigerettes it was the first time to experience competing in track and field. These young ladies competed well on a cold night in Muleshoe. Our 8th Grade Tigerettes came in 2nd overall in team points.
