Randy Gene Tomlinson

randyMemorial services for Randy Gene Tomlinson, 51, of Lubbock will be held at 2:00 PM  on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Wilson, located at 1403 13th Street, Wilson, Texas with Billy Palmer officiating.  
Randy passed away in his home Nov. 16, 2016. He was  born April 25, 1965 in Tyler, Texas.
Randy was a mechanic at Burgess Auto Salvage in Lubbock for several years, specializing in transmissions.
Those who will cherish his memory include his mother Ann Menzer and husband Weldon Menzer of Wilson; his father Donald Tomlinson and wife Janette of Bryan; brother Paul Tomlinson of Spring; his children, Garrett of Plainview, and Meagan and Tyler, and girlfriend Christe Arendale of Lubbock.

Virginia E. Hill

virginia(Slaton)  Virginia E. Hill, 85, of Slaton, died Monday, November 21, 2016. Graveside services were 11 AM, Friday, November 25, 2016 in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
Virginia Ester Shelton was born December 3, 1930 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Cole and Carrie Minor Shelton. She moved with her family to Lubbock and attended Lubbock High School. She worked in Retail Sales most of her life and retired from Dillards Department Store in 2000. Her last position was the “demo lady” at United Supermarkets’ Slaton location. Virginia enjoyed gardening and reading. She was a long time resident of Slaton and lived the last few years at the Slaton Care Center where she participated in various activities and enjoyed friendships with both residents and staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Richard Fenley, two sisters and a brother.
Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Ronnie Fenley of Lane City, Texas, Billy Michael Fenley and Dana Fenley both of Lubbock, and Joe Teague of Slaton, along with two grandsons, two granddaughters and several great-grandchildren

Donald L. Jones

donald(Slaton) Funeral services for Donald L. Jones 83, of Slaton, were 2 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Slaton with Rev. David Gerhardt officiating. Interment followed in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family had a visitation Friday, November 25, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Englunds. Donald passed from this life Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was born September 8, 1933 in Lubbock County, Texas to Braxton Barto and Nellie Mae (Hefner) Jones. He graduated from Cooper High School and began farming in 1951. Donald married Lavenia Blevins on February 25th, 1956 in Melrose NM. He served in the US Army from 1961 thru 1963. Donald returned to farming and retired in 1986. His second career was as Cotton Broker with Gary Chestnut Cotton Co. retiring in 2002. He was preceded  in death by his daughter La Donna Jones Braun and son Cary Jones. Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slaton and served on many church boards.
His survivors include his wife, Lavenia of the home, two sons Jeff and Bryan both of Slaton, a brother Douglas of Weatherford TX., and a sister Oneda Sedgzwick of Lubbock, Nancy May of Graham, Jo Sogard of Wichita Falls, along with 3 grand-children. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 305 West Lubbock St,. Slaton, TX 79364.

Joe Garcia Martinez

joe-garcia-martinez(Slaton) Rosary Service for Joe Garcia Martinez, 66, of Lubbock, will be Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in Englunds Chapel. Church Service will be 10:30 AMMonday, November 28, 2016 in The Lubbock Impact Inc. Chapel at 2707 34th St. in Lubbock  with Rev. Tim Gonzales, officiating. Graveside will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Joe was born July 25, 1950, in Idalou, Texas to Leandro and Pauline (Garcia) Martinez. He attended Idalou Schools and went to work farming.  In the 1990s, he became a painter in the construction industry.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Martinez in 1991. 
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lydia, and four daughters, Brenda and husband Paul Aguirre, Lisa and husband Albert Aguirre, Joann and husband Jerry Salinas and Rachael and husband Sean Rubio, his father, Leandro and one brother, Leandro Martinez, Jr., four step-children, Rhonda Prieto, Juanita and husband Willie Servatius, Reynaldo Pena, Jr. and Jerry Pena and wife Angie, along with eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren.

Clothing Drive for Coats, Jackets, or Hoodies!

There will be a clothing drive for coats starting on November 28th-December 9th. Please donate to this great cause. Donation sites can be found on any Slaton ISD campus, the central office, or People’s Bank. Those who donate a coat, jacket, or hoodie will receive a complimentary ticket to any 2016-2017 SISD junior high or high school basketball game.

Those celebrating birthdays in November were Gail Ferguson, Bertha Perez, Steve Campbell, Harley Martin, Sid Vasquez, Nancy Ferguson, and George Coleigo.  There weren’t any anniversaries.  They don’t play bridge in November or December.

Our fundraiser now is a BIG CHRISTMAS STOCKING filled with toys.  We are asking if you can donate a toy for kids.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Come to the center to buy your tickets.
