Veterans Day Progam at SHS

Slaton High School will be holding another year of a Veterans Day Program. This will take place November 11th at 9:30AM in the Slaton High School Gymnasium.
All participating veterans will be recognized and will have seating on the gym’s lower level.

Check Presentation to SISD Theater Group

On Thursday, November 10 at 7PM at SISD Administration Building, the SISD Theater Group will recieve a check in thanks for presenting the play Harvey Girls last month. We are also giving them a shadowbox of the program, signatures by all cast members, cast photo and engraved plate. This will be displayed in the school’s trophy case. I hope we have guaranteed attendance by Carlos, Justin and Julee, and again you are all invited. These activities tend to occur right at the start of the meetings, so you won’t be out late.

William Gordon Gass

william-gassWilliam Gordon Gass WOODROW-William Gordon Pappy Gass, 90, of Lubbock passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, in Tahoka, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, in Englunds Chapel with Jim Stephens officiating. Graveside services will follow in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have a visitation prior to services starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Gordon was born Aug. 27, 1926, to Will Godford and Rosabell (Hill) Gass, in Tahoka, Texas. He was the first born of nine sons, and two daughters. He attended Tahoka High School and entered the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen, on Sept. 2, 1943. He served aboard the U.S.S. Doyen during WWII. One event he witnessed was the raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima. Gordon was a paint contractor for commercial and residential buildings serving West Texas for over fifty years. Gordon married Bobby Jane Teeter on Sept. 16, 1946, in Lamesa. Gordon is survived by his wife of seventy years, Bobby Jane Gass of the home; his son, Billy Gass (Lynette) of Comfort; three daughters, JaNette Gass and Gorla Gass (Steve Ethridge) Frana Bartley (Ron), all of Lubbock; along with six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathey Gass Diggs in 2010; and brothers, Hennie and Ronney Gass. The family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.
