Our sympathy to Raymond Garcia and family in the loss of his sister Maria Rodriguez Pinkert. 

We had our Halloween party Monday.   Costume prize winners were Scariest – Ada Mae Culpepper, Funniest – Janis King, Most Unique – Imogene Davis. .

Those celebrating their birthday the 26th were Weldon Neugebauer, Eunice Montgomery, Imogene Davis, Alma Jean Kennedy, Violet Hobbs, Raymond Garcia, and Andrew Klottarloff.

Jay and Jo Lacy were celebrating their 59th anniversary.

There were three tables of Bridge after lunch.  Those playing were Bob Adams, Steve Campbell, Ralph Bravoco, Jo Ann Williams, Jimaileen Jenson, Rob Hiner, Pat Davis, Sandra Voigt, J. D. Zinck, Marge Zinck, Cherrie Poer, and Alma Jean Kennedy.  The winners were Jimaileen Jenson and Sandra Voigt

Birthday and Anniversaries will be on the Nov. 16th due to Thanksgiving and menu difficulties.

A fund raiser for Slaton Meals on Wheels will start Nov. 11 thru Nov. 19.  It will be held at the United Supermarket in Slaton.

You donate $5.00 to our Meals on Wheels and receive a coupon for a frozen Sara Lee pie.  Thank you for your support!

Please Note: ALL DONATIONS MADE IN SLATON STAY IN SLATON.  Any donations made in Lubbock stay in Lubbock.

Bingo on Monday had 26 players.  The secret prize was won by Rufina Perez. The blackout amount of $43.10 was won by Dianne Walker.  Come next Monday for lunch and have a lot of fun.

We are having a raffle for a queen size comforter. $1.00 a ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00. Come by the center and see it and buy a ticket or more.

Veteran’s Day Event!

The American Legion will host a flag retirement ceremony on Friday, November 11th at 2PM. It will be held at the Garza Street Clubhouse. Craig Mann will officiate.

Fundraiser for Isaac Dabila at SHS

There will be a basketball game fundraiser held for Isaac Dabila on November 7th at 7PM. The game will be the Slaton Police Department playing against the Slaton Fire Department. The entry fee is $5 for adults and $3 for students (age 4 and under is free). There will be a silent auction during the game and local businesses can donate by contacting Dustin Brown 632-5337

Angelina Dixon

angelinaAngelina Dixon SLATON-Angelina Dixon, 69 of Slaton, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Covenant Heart Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1947, to the late Modesto and Ambrosia Navarrette. Angelina was a homemaker and loved by many. She was an avid basketball fan and loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play all sports. Angelina is preceded in death by her parents, Modesto and Ambrosia Navarrette; sister, Margaret Gonzales; and one grandson, Toby Ward. Angelina leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Lester; two sons, Moses Navarrette and Ronnie Navarrette; three daughters, JoAnn Mallory, Crystal Navarrette, and Cathy Zavala; three brothers, Modesto Navarrette, Pete Navarrette, and Fred Navarrette; two sisters, Sally Roberts and Gloria Navarrette; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church, Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
