We lost two old friends to the center Wayne Liles and Dixie Bownds.  They will be missed by all. Our sympathy goes out to their families.

Report on Bingo next week since we were closed on Monday.

Come next Tuesday for lunch and stay to enjoy our monthly 42 game from 1:00 to 4:00.

Maria Rodriguez Pinkert

maria-pinkertMaria Rodriguez Pinkert SLATON-Maria Rodriguez Pinkert, 80, of Slaton, passed away on Oct. 12, 2016. Services will be Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Downer and Sid Crawford officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have a visitation Saturday Oct. 15, 2016, in Englunds from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Maria was born March 15, 1936, to Loreto and Petra (Garza) Garcia in Marlin, Texas. She attended Slaton Schools. Maria married Salvador Rodriguez on April 1, 1956, in Slaton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1994. She worked for Burlington Textiles from 1962 to 1974, then Frito Lay from 1977 to 1998, and finally retired after a career in Senior Care Companionship. Maria married Leon L. Pinkert on May 14, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a son Patrick Suhl in 2006 and a stepson, Gregory Pinkert in 2015. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Leon of the home; daughter, Eva Suhl of Amarillo; two sons, Adam Rodriguez and wife Sherri, Salvador Rodriguez all of Slaton; three brothers, Jesse and Alice Garcia, Raymond and Mary Rita Garcia, and Sam Garcia all of Slaton; stepdaughters, Ronda Abston and husband Russell of Slaton and Shawn Crawford and husband Sid of Synder; stepdaughter-in-law, LeAnn Pinkert, of Slaton; along with seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

St. Joseph’s Sausage Festival!

Remember to stop by St. Joseph’s for our Annual Sausage Festival and Oktoberfest! Here is the upcoming schedule for this weekend:

Friday, October 14th

9 a.m. bread making at the St. Joseph Hall

5 p.m. Oktoberfest ~ St. Joseph Hall backyard, $10 cover, 3 live bands, sausage wraps, German beer, wine, bring your blanket and chairs for seating!

Saturday, October 15th

8 a.m. – 1p.m. Sausage Sales at St. Joseph Hall

Sunday, October 16th 

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sausage Dinner at St. Joseph Hall $10 adult/take-out plates & $6 child plates

12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Oktoberfest Biergarten Band in backyard. German beer and take-out.

11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fun Fest, Silent & Live Auctions at St. Joseph School

2 p.m. Live & Cotton Auction

3 p.m. Silent Auction closes

T-shirts can be bought at the school office during school hours or see April Behnke this weekend.
