Steven Hollis Devroe
Steven Hollis Devroe, 42, of Lubbock, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016. He was born in Slaton, Texas, on Sept. 16, 1973, to Jack Dean Jackson and Ella Mac Devroe. He worked for McDonald’s in 2009. He started working at the Lubbock Airport in 2014 until his death. He married April Greathouse on July 24, 2015. Steven is preceded in death by his father, J. D. Jackson. Steven leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, April Devroe; mother, Ella Mae Devroe; one son, Demarkus Jackson; one stepson, Daetrun Wilborn; two sisters, Vanessa Russel and Angela Jones; one brother, LaShan Harvey; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Slaton, Texas. Private Disposition will follow under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
Keith Stone
Keith Stone, 62 of Lubbock, formerly of Slaton passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in First Baptist Church with Dr. Cleve Kerby, and Kenneth Winchester officiating. Graveside services will follow in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have a visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Englunds. Keith was born Dec. 2, 1953, in Lubbock. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. He worked for W.W. Steel until 1983 when he began his career in Law Enforcement with the Slaton Police Department. In 1992 he continued his career with the Lubbock County Sheriff Department, retiring after 33 years of service in January of 2016. Keith is survived by two sons, Brandon and wife Lesley and Joel and wife Heather, all of Slaton; along with five grandchildren; and his Special Love, Judy York of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials to the First Responders Memorial, LRFSM in care of Buddy Davis, 5601 94th Street Lubbock, TX 79424.

Josephine Vargas
Rosary for Josephine Vargas, 65, of Slaton, will be Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. in Englunds Chapel. Celebration of Mass Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, in Slaton’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Chacko Thadathil, officiating. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Josephine was born March 12, 1951, in Slaton, Texas, to Ernest and Elizabeth (Aguilar) Alvarado. She attended Slaton Schools. Josephine went to work for Mercy Hospital in 1972, and began a career working for Doctors Clinics. She retired due to health in Sept. of 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ruben Alvarado in 1979. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jo Ann Vargas and husband, Frank Garcia, Sr. of Slaton; two sisters, Ernestine Perez and Mary Jane Garcia, both of Slaton; along with four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
