JULY 4th FESTIVAL @ The Park 10am – 3pm

Monday, July 4th from 10am to 3pm, Slaton will host its annual Festival. Filled with food, fun and frivolity. Bands performing throughout the day.  Slaton Sound Stage presents: Cathy Whitten, Texas Cadillac Jack Band. Special guests include Danielle Henzler, John Hendrick, Mary Beth Ashburn, and David Mitchell.

Geneva Jo Moates

Moates, GenevaA memorial service for Geneva Jo Moates, 89, of Slaton will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 in Englunds Chapel in Slaton. Officiating services will be Tommy Hicks, Minister at Southside Church of Christ and Richard Horton, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Geneva went to her heavenly home June 25, 2016. She was born April 15, 1927 in Childress, TX, to Joe Price and Onie Lee (Proffitt) Baxley. She grew up and graduated from Childress High School in 1944. Geneva married her high school sweetheart C. D. Moates on March 13, 1946, and they lived in California while C. D. served in the Navy. They then moved to Guymon, OK in 1947. During the first years of their marriage Geneva was a telephone operator after which she became a full time mother and home maker. They moved to Sudan in 1952 and then on to Amherst in 1956. They have resided in Slaton since 1971 when C. D. accepted a transfer to SPS Jones Station. Geneva was an active member of the Church of Christ as Sunday school teacher and Elder s wife. She enjoyed games, singing and playing the piano. She was loving and caring to her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of seventy years C. D. Moates of Slaton, three sons, Darrel Moates and wife Nina of Arlington, TX, Eddie Moates of Lubbock, and Alan Moates of South Whitley, IN, two brothers, Charles Baxley of Yuma, AR., Jerry Baxley of Union City, CA. along with two grandchildren Dan Moates and Candi Creeach, and two great grand children. She was preceded in death by one grandson Robert Moates.

Memorials may be made to Kindred At Home Hospice care or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Slaton Library of Legacies and Hospice staff for the excellent care they gave Geneva.
