Odie “Lou” Burleson Oats
Slaton- Odie “Lou” Burleson Oats, 92 of Slaton, Texas went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas.
Lou was born Tuesday, June 30, 1925 on a ranch in Eddy County, New Mexico to Odis Oscar and Willie Laura Burleson. She married Noel Oats on October 20, 1947 in Big Spring, Texas. Lou spent her life as a homemaker on the farm, which, as most of you know, that means she was a farmer too. Lou enjoyed sewing things for her grandchildren and was an avid reader. She attended the Baptist church.
Surviving are son, Norman “Sailor” Maples; 5 granddaughters, Melody Pope, Julie, Melissa, Noel, and Rebecca Maples; and 5 great grandchildren.Lou is preceded in death by her husband, William Noel Oats, her parents and 4 brothers.
A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Englunds Chapel located at 1400 Woodrow Rd Slaton, Texas 79364 with Pastor Cleve Kerby officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery, Slaton, TX.

Leo Andrew Henzler Jr
Slaton- Leo Andrew Henzler Jr., 78 of Slaton, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Junior was Born Friday, September 1, 1939 in Slaton, Texas, he was the son of the late Leo Henzler and the late Mary Steffens Henzler. He married Linda (Scott) Henzler on June 23rd, 1972 in Clovis NM. Owning and operating Henzler Automotive with his father in Slaton, TX since 1938, retiring in 2004. Junior is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Henzler; sons, David Wayne and wife Cyndee Henzler of Haslet, TX and Hunter Justice and wife Brityn Henzler of Dangerfield, TX; cousin who was a brother to him, Charley Wayne and wife Linda Sue Henzler; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sons, James Russell Henzler and Robert Wayne Henzler, and a grandson Nolan Gregory Henzler. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 205 S. 19th Street, Slaton Texas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Englunds, 1400 Woodrow Road, Slaton, Texas and a Rosary will be held in the Chapel at Englunds from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM directly after the visitation. Helen Sue Hearn Payne
Lubbock- Graveside services for Helen Sue Hearn Payne, age, 90, of Lubbock, Texas who died October, 7, 2017, will be held at Englewood Cemetery, under the direction of Englund Funeral Service in Slaton, Texas on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. Helen was born in Bowling Green MO, on March 2, 1927, the daughter of Durlin H. Hearn and Emma Josephine Carroll Hearn. She was preceeded in death by her husband, William J. (Bill) Payne of Lubbock in March, 2005, her sister Mary Voss, brother Floyd Hearn, and brother Jim Hearn, all of MO.
She attended Minnequa School of Nursing and Southwestern Colorado University in Pueblo, CO before moving to Texas, attending Texas Tech University, completing work as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, later earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from West Texas State University, a Master’s Degree of Nursing from the the University of Texas in Austin, and a teaching certificate for secondary school from A & M University. She worked in the nursing field for many years, later taught at Monterey High School for 8 years, returned to Methodist Hospital School of Nursing as an instructor, then was in charge of recruitment and admissions where she worked closely with colleges and universities in attracting young people to the nursing profession.
She was a member of many civic organizations and served on boards and committees for South Plains College, Wayland University, Lubbock Independent School District, the City of Lubbock and Garza County among which were Sigma Tau Delta, AAUW, ABWA, American Red Cross for Lubbock and Garza Counties, Board Member of Wayland Baptist University at Lubbock, Texas Health Occupations Association, South Plains Employment and Training Consortium Advisory Council, Private Industry Council Job Training Program, Lubbock Health Facilities Board and many others.
She is survived by 3 sons Gale Lewis (twin) of Austin, Dale Lewis (twin) and wife Mary of Lubbock, William Bayless Payne and wife Pamela of Sequim, WA; 10 grandchildren Laurie Ann Lewis, Scott Lewis, Erin Blanc, Lillis Breland, Melissa Litwiller, Lacey Lewis, Sara Payne, Aletheia Payne, Liam Payne (twin), and Claire Payne (twin); 9 Great Grandchildren Calan Rodgers, Addison Blanc, Berkeley Blanc (triplet), Caleb Blanc (triplet), Drew Blanc (triplet), Wynne Breland, Graeme Litwiller, Declan Litwiller, and Everett Litwiller; and 8 nephews and nieces.
Reading and Bible study were her favorite pastimes and she taught Sunday School at all age levels during her lifetime. She raised her boys in Trinity Baptist Church and later attended Melonie Park Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her large family and always encouraged family members and others to pursue higher education.

Craig Wesley Hancock
Slaton- Craig Wesley Hancock, 55 of Slaton, Texas died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas. Craig was born Wednesday, January 3, 1962 in Denver City, Texas, he was the son of the late Wesley Hancock and the late Ruth Ward Hancock. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park – Lubbock located at 1401 Franklin Avenue Lubbock, Texas 79416 with Andy Hurst officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Englunds, 1400 Woodrow Road, Slaton, Texas.
