Jameson Jackson – Signs Letter of Intent Feb 3

We are very excited to announce that Jameson Jackson has received a scholarship offer, accepted it, and will be signing a letter of intent to play football at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. He will be signing this letter, tomorrow Feb. 3rd at 10:45 am in the Slaton Basketball arena. We are very proud of Jameson and would like to invite anyone that would like to attend to please join. There have been so many teachers and coaches that have had a major influence on Jameson and I know he would love to see you there. Jameson is all around kid that has excelled both athletically and academically (he is also in the top 10 of his class) and that just doesn’t happen without lots of help. So if you can please come out and also if you see him or his family please congratulate them. Thank you.
Pink Out TONIGHT vs Idalou
This Friday February 5th we will host a Pink out Coaches v Cancer Night v Idalou. Games are at 5:00, 6:30, and 8:00. We will be raising money that night with all proceeds going to the Team Tatum Medical Fund.
Tatum Schulte is the 8 year old daughter of Travis and Shawna Schulte. Her dad Travis and I coached together in Perryton and he has since moved to Canyon to become the Head Boys Basketball Coach. Tatum was diagnosed in early December with a very rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. She will be enduring 10 weeks of Chemo and then 2 surgeries. The doctors will be removing a spot that was found on one of her vertebra in one surgery and in the second they will amputate her leg. She will then endure 19 more weeks of chemo. I would encourage you to go to her facebook page at Team Tatum and learn more about this brave young girl’s fight. As sad as the situation is, Tatum’s bravery and faith in it and her family’s faith is inspiring to say the least.
We would take any and all help from organizations, would encourage you to show up and wear pink in support, or at the very least put her and her family in your prayers. We were so blessed to have the outpouring of support during Xavier’s situation and it is now our opportunity to give some of that back.

OBITUARY: Louise Brake
Louise Brake
(Slaton) Louise Brake, 88 of Slaton passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, February 6th, 2016, in Hearts Together Church of Christ with Curtis Baker officiating. Graveside services will follow in Englewood Cemetery, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
The family will have a visitation from 6 to 7:30 PM, Friday, February 5th, 2016, at Englunds.
Louise was born November 22, 1927 to Raymond Frank, and Gladys Cornelia (Conner) Gentry on the farm near Posey. She graduated from Slaton High School. She worked for H. E. Stokes at the Oldsmobile dealership from 1966 thru 1987. Louise was the Columnist for the Senior Citizens Colum in the Slatonite for many years. She married Charlie V. Brake on February 21, 1948 in the Methodist Church parsonage. Louise was also a homemaker and member of the Hearts Together Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by Charlie in July of 2000 and a son David on January 11th, 2016.
Louise is survived by her daughter Connie Duncan, of Slaton and a son, Shelby and wife Holly Brake of Lubbock, along with four grandchildren, Michelle and husband Walker Carter, Brandon and wife Chasey Duncan, Clayton and wife Calley Brake and Evan Brake and nine great grandchildren.

OBITUARY: Bobby G. Holley
Bobby G. Holley
(Slaton) Bobby Gene Holley, 78, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, February 1, 2016. Chapel Services will be Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM in Englunds Chapel with Travis Hart officiating. Services are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Bobby was born December 16, 1937 in Martinsville, Virginia to Thomas Green and Laura Mae (Belton) Holley. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Clovis, NM. He met and later married Donnie Gaylene Haley on April 17, 1959. After being discharged in 1960 he and Donnie traveled back and forth to Virginia, finally settling in the Lubbock area. Bobby worked in manufacturing and maintenance, retiring in 1995. Bobby was a Baptist.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Donnie of Lubbock, son Michael and wife Kelly of Ransom Canyon, daughter Patricia Holley McGovern and husband James of Galveston, two granddaughters, Cynthia (Micah) Hoke of Murfreesboro, TN and Candice (Herschel) Martin of Lubbock, along with two great granddaughters, Charis Hoke and Holley Martin.

On Saturday I took a group of students to the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at Frenship HS. Laine Pinkert, Hannah Howard and Lazay Guiterrez all received a Division 1 on their solo: Love Has Eyes. Arianna Rodriguez and Brittany Silvers qualified for the state contest in May with their solo performances. It was a great weekend! If you have these students in your class, please congratulate them on their hard work and achievement.

ALSO- 3 girls medaled. Medals for girls are based off of a bodyweight equalized total for 2 halves of the girls competitors, which places based on the best overall lifters “pound-for-pound”
Receiving medals were Leslie Escobar with a 3rd place overall medal in her half of the weight classes.
Also receiving medals were Paula Ballejo and Oralia Cardenas, with the 2nd best overall and 5th best overall performances.
All 9 of the girls scored points for the team, which led to the girls winning their first ever Team Championship at a meet.
