Irene Catherine Steffens
(Slaton) Rosary services for Irene Catherine Steffens, 94, of Slaton will be 6:30 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Englunds Chapel. Celebration of life service will be 10 AM, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Slaton’s St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joseph Palacios officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

SPOTLIGHTING SENIORS

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I wish you a prosperous New Year. Let’s make 2016 the best year for the Senior Citizens Center.
We still have snow and cold temperatures! Hopefully things will get back to normal this week. Please be careful as you drive around town.
We are sadden by the loss of one of our friends and board member Rudy Dominguez. Our prayers our extended to his family.
On Monday Dec. 21 we had a very special Bingo. Sandy Goodner went around to various business owners and ask them to donate items for Bingo prizes. Sandy wrapped the prizes in beautiful Christmas paper. The secret prize was won by Diane Walker. The blackout amount of $49.85 was won by Janis King. Thank you Sandy for making this such a special Bingo.
Bingo on Jan. 4 had 22 players. The secret prize was won by Jesse Velasquez. The blackout amount of $37.30 was won by Nell Cole. Come join us for lunch on Monday Jan. 11 and then stay to play Bingo from 1-2.

FYI. This is the last article I will be writing for the senior citizens. I feel it is time to do something different for this article. My suggestion is to have the members of our senior citizens center write their thoughts and information down and then give it to Charlotte so she can put it in the article. Maybe we could call it “Comments by our seniors.” Thank you for your support during the years I wrote this article!
MOW deliveries for Dec. 21 – Dec. 25 were done by St. Joseph Catholic Church. Those who served were Robert Hurst, Joyce Gaynus, Wally Kamrath, Richard Len Dodson, Brian Rape, Edward Gaydos, and Rosemarie Hurst.
