* The Texas Rangers beat the New York Yankees 4-2 yesterday. Game 2 tonight.
* The Astros had the day off yesterday. Astros & Athletics tonight.
* Marcos Schuster of Frenship was named the Most Valuable Player for the North as they beat the South 118-101 in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Game. Schuster signs with LCU.
* The Sacramento Kings topped the Houston Rockets 77-68 last night in the NBA Summer League championship game.
* The Dallas Cowboys waived defensive tackle Chris Whaley and signed receiver Dezmon Briscoe and tight end Dallas Walker yesterday.

On February 19, 1914, May Pierstorff, just short of her 6th birthday, was “mailed” from her parents’ home in Grangeville, Idaho to her grandparents’ house about 73 miles away for just 53-cents worth of stamps. May’s parents were taking advantage of parcel post service, which began just the year before. * Slaton Tigers begin football with a Scrimmage Aug 15 at Lamesa.
* Texas Tech Football is at The Big 12 Media Days this week in Dallas.
* Tech baseball’s Tim Proudfoot & Dominic Moreno  passed on going to the Major League, staying with Tech.
* The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Texas Rangers 9-6 yesterday. The Rangers host the Yankees, start of 3.
* The Houston Astros clinched an 11-7 win over the Chicago White Sox yesterday. The Astros host the Athletics, start of 3.
* Rory  McIlroy wins the British Open over the weekend. Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler finished 2 shots behind McIlroy.
