Response to Tigerette/Idalou Ballgame Friday

by Coach Dustin Klafka (FB) response

I don’t do this often or ever but as cooler heads prevail in morning I would like to say a few things about last night & please read all the way through…the girls will tell you I’m long winded.

I can’t say how appreciative we are as a team to have a community support us the way Slaton has. The number of calls, text, Facebook post, emails, letters, signs sent to the girls was and is amazing. I only hope that not just last night but every night we step on the floor it gives you as much pride as it does us to represent you.

I know there were a lot of hurting kids last night but I wouldn’t have it any other way. People with the most invested in something hurt the most in failure. But it’s only through failure that we will truly learn to succeed. And yes adult decisions and actions (officials) directly affect kids lives unfairly sometimes but life is unfair. We have to learn how to deal with that with grace & character and overcome. Had it went the other way last night there would be a great team in Idalou with parents, players, & coaches that would feel the same way we are today. They would be hurting. Someone has to loose.

Let’s not let the loose or the win distract us from where the attention should go and that’s to the kids on both sides that competed their butts of to win a game. You had 2 extremely determined basketball teams on the floor last night. Don’t know in 15 years if I have ever been apart of a game that was fought for so hard on both sides. Give the kids on both sides the credit deserved and earned.

Sometimes when you do everything possible which I believe we did you just have to believe it’s in Gods will. So we will continue to work and compete so that we can serve and find his plan.

Good luck to Idalou, I hope the make regional tournament as do we. Couldn’t be prouder to be apart of this community & have the blessing to coach your kids!
