Spotlighting Seniors

Sr CitizensBy Janet James

Food for thought – If you could choose one characteristic that would get you through life, choose a sense of humor.

We had a very nice turnout for B & A Day.  Those celebrating birthdays were Monica Urias, Travis Culpepper, Patt Patterson, Sid Ramirez, Pat Dawson, Rudy Dominguez and Donovan Reader.  After about a 3 month drought we had 3 couples celebrating their anniversaries.  Those couples were Ada May and Travis Culpepper (10 yrs), Grady and Eunice Montgomery (56 yrs) and Donald and Carlene Bownds (48 yrs).  Congratulation to all!

Bridge after lunch on B & A Day had 3 tables. Those who played were Jolene Fondy, Bob Adams, Ralph Bravoco, Kai Hawley, Jo Ann Williams, Gene Means, Steve Campbell, Max Robertson, Troyce Wood, Margaret Edwards, Sandra Voigt, and Rita Witten. The winners were Ralph Bravoco and Kai Hawley.

We have had 15 people sign up for 42. It looks like Tuesday was the most popular day for playing 42. We will be letting everyone know the date of our first monthly 42 game.  Watch for up coming events.

Bingo on Tuesday had 20 players hoping to win a prize. The secret prize was won by Mary Galindo. The Blackout amount of $35.55 was won by Rufina Perez.  Come join us Monday for lunch and stay to play Bingo.

Upcoming events – Mark your calendars! Monday (June 3) HFF will be here from 10-12 to check your BP, blood sugar and weight.  Bingo from 1-2. Tuesday (June 11) Calvert will be here from 11-12 to check your BP.

Just for laughs – Ralph noticed his life changed dramatically after he got a new hearing aid.  Showing it off to his wife, he commented, “This is the world’s best hearing aid.  As a matter of fact, I can’t remember hearing this well since I was a kid.”  “Well, what kind is it?” asked his wife. Ralph glanced at his watch and replied, “Oh, it’s about two fifteen.”

MOW deliveries for May 20 – 24 were done by Bible Baptist Church. Those who served were Beverly Frazier, John Logan, Patricia McIntire, Karen Branscum, Chris Downer, Dan Richardson, and Donovan Reader.

MOW deliveries for June 3- 7 is the responsibility of The Slaton Care Center.
